Frequently asked Questions..

Do you host international domains?

You bet! We are able to host domain names from any country around the world. We currently host clients and domains from around the world.

What kind of support does Plenty of Hosting offer?

We encourage our customers to send us a support request email via our contact section. Email support is around-the-clock with technical emergencies being addressed first and support issues handled in the order they are received.

Please Note: Our clients with “Corporate hosting” have support priority, as they have “paid support” included in their hosting packages, including telephone support.

We provide technical support for hosting issues only – we cannot provide help with HTML syntax, Web site design, CGI programming problems, database architecture or other issues not directly related to the hosting services we provide. However please drop a question to us at our contact section if you encounter any problem where you think our help is needed.

Do you support Front Page?

Front Page has been considered “End of Life” since 2006. We will no longer offer, nor support Front Page and it will be removed from our servers, starting with our November 2009 server maintenance cycle. There are no longer any updates and is now considered a security rick in the hosting industry.

How long does it takes to set up an account?

Plenty of Hosting will have your account up and running within 15 minutes (if our fraud checks are satisfactory) with our automated provisioning system to 24 hours (if you need manual verification) and depending on how many orders we’ve received at the time. You will receive an email once your account has been set up with information on how to access your new hosting account.

How do I transfer my domain to Plenty of Hosting?

You can initiate the process by logging into your domain registrar account and redirecting your name server to point to our name servers (you will receive name server and hosting details via email once your account has been approved, set up and activated.)

If you are unable to change your domain or have no technical knowledge of how to do so, please contact our support team and we will get it done on your behalf. Once the name server has been redirected, your domain name would be able to retrieve data from our server within 24-72 hours

If you still encounter problems and need a hand, please email us through our support section and we will be happy to help you.

Can you move my web site from my old host?

Yes, we have had success in moving entire sites, email and databases in one shot. The site needs to be already hosted with cpanel access, and as long as the current provider hasn’t blocked the ability, we can move it server to server. However, we don’t make any guarantees., but we can give it a shot. ;)

Can you host a ‘Ruby On Rails’ web site?

Yes, but right now, only two of our Montreal servers have Ruby Installed. As we place more servers online, we’ll be installing Ruby. If you place an order, ask that your account is to be placed on a ‘Ruby Enabled’ server.

Can I have shell access?

Sorry, shell access (SSH) or Telnet are not available on our shared hosting plans. :( We  have dedicated servers  available  where you can have shell access.

Where are your servers physically located?

Thats’ a very good question. Our servers are located in Canada, within a server rack in a Montreal data center. We own the servers, and switches. The server rack belongs to the data center. We lease the rack, pay for electricity and the network connections. We can physically put our hands on our servers. If your shopping for  a web host, make sure they own their own servers. Leased servers have a habit of getting switched off for non-payment, and your website goes offline also.  A lot of hosting places lease only one dedicated server for all the web sites. We have a rack full of servers. We don’t lease our servers from anyone. We own every one.
